Mary Blake - Watercolors

"I have bachelors in math and economics from UC Berkeley, though I’ve forgotten all that I learned. After graduating from college, I worked as a programmer and then as a project manager. Throughout that time, I drew. For two decades, my job defined me – quitting was terrifying.

Now, I paint and do volunteer work. Most of my images come from wildlife and, as a volunteer at WildCare in San Rafael, I have a unique opportunity to see that wildlife up close.

Marin county native, UC Davis graduate.

I have traveled extensively to study with Master painters for the last 18 years. The Henry Hensche Colorist School and Camille Przewodek have most deeply influenced my understanding of light and color. Study with Jove Wang, Milt Kobayashi, Carolyn Anderson and Dan McCaw have provided guidance in the search for my "True North". I live with my husband, Jan, in the Novato home where we raised our two lovely daughters.

Nepal is an awe-inspiring country. Kathmandu, its capitol, is a bustling city whose history goes back thousands of years. Located on ancient Asian trade routes, the influence of multiple cultures over the millennia is evident everywhere.

Georgia Annwell - Paintings

Georgia's show, Senior Artists of Marin, will be on exhibit at CMCM for the month. Her show includes 40 portraits of Marin artists in their 60's, 70's and 80's. Georgia will also be shooting her own short documentary about local senior artists during the reception. In 2005 Georgia began painting portraits while taking a class with Chester Arnold at the College of Marin. By the end of the class Georgia had completed several portraits of other senior artists, and she has not stopped painting portraits since then.

"For the last decade, my primary medium has been Hand-Painted Photography. After taking photos of California Landscapes, I print them in black & white on archival (acid-free) paper, and then add color by hand, using specialized oil paints and/or colored pencils. My Hand-Painted Photographs have won awards from State and Local competitions, including 5 awards from the Marin County Fair."

Susan Fan–Brown - Photography Exhibit

An accomplished studio photographer and an expert at digital photo manipulation, Susan has photographed for a long list of local, regional and national companies. Clients she has worked for include, among others; Duty Free Shops, Century Theaters, Sharper Image, Carrera y Carrera, Sephora, Grace Baking and Restoration Hardware. Susan also has developed a unique style of children’s and teen’s portraiture. Starting from a strongly traditionalist sense of lighting and composition, she calls upon her mastery of modern digital imaging tools to create truly stunning and memorable portraits. As an artist, Susan attempts to explore the simple but sophisticated beauty to be found in nature. The Georgia Annwell Gallery

The Georgia Annwell Gallery, part of the Community Media Center of Marin, is located at 819 A Street in downtown San Rafael. The gallery was named after Georgia Annwell, an eclectic artist and prolific producer at CMCM. As a member of CMCM and the Novato Arts Center at Hamilton Field, Annwell created over 150 exhibitions while also working on the production of a three-part documentary series titled “Senior Artist of Marin.”

"Great art challenges not only the viewer but also the artists who create it. Most artists paint what they know and do it to the best of their ability. Allan Babbitt - Photographs

Alan Babbitt creates one-of-a-kind images with an offbeat, quirky view of the world and a dry sense of humor. He was born with poor eyesight, only partially correctable (Don't let him drive your car). Whether from ignorance, stubbornness or over compensation, he has blindly refused to face the facts. Instead, he has specialized in visuals his whole life.

Bernard Healey - Paintings

Bernard Healey is a long time Marin County resident who loves the coast and the natural land and water that make Marin a paradise. Most of his painting career has been focused on landscapes and waterscapes in acrylic paints on canvas. He favors heavy brush strokes and impasto combined with delicate washes, giving vigor and movement to his cloud formations and mist arising from the wetlands. The California coast has always provided an endless source of inspiration for his paintings.
