Nini Lion - Figures and Portraits

Nini Lion, an award winning Mill Valley artist, has been active in the Marin artsí community since 1989. Nini has served as a board member of the Marin Arts Council (MAC), as a Mill Valley Art Commissioner, and as a board member of Artisans Art Gallery. She is a member of Artisans, Marin Society of Artists, the Marin Arts Council, and Friends of Wellesley Art.

Alan Plisskin - Photography

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Alan moved to California in 1972 to pursue his photographic career. Commencing in commercial photography, specializing in portraiture, it wasn't long before the beauty of California's majestic scenery made a dramatic impact on Alan's photographic vision. Over his career, Alan has studied with numerous internationally renown photographers including the late Galen Rowell, Chris Burkett and Lou DeSario.

Allen Lavee - Watercolors

"I have had a lifelong interest and connection with figure drawing. I am drawn to the immediacy and spontaneity of watercolor and with ink, and I like the characteristic that such works are completed in one session. They often do not lend themselves to reworking.

Herb Zettl - Paintings

This month we are pleased to have the esteemed professor of television, Herb Zettl, to grace the CMCM Gallery walls with his recent paintings. Herb taught for 40 years in the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University and now resides in West Marin. His exhibit will be on display from June 5th through June 30th.

Open reception on Friday, June 8, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM as part of the San Rafael Art Walk.

Mary Blake - Watercolors

"I have bachelors in math and economics from UC Berkeley, though I’ve forgotten all that I learned. After graduating from college, I worked as a programmer and then as a project manager. Throughout that time, I drew. For two decades, my job defined me – quitting was terrifying.

Now, I paint and do volunteer work. Most of my images come from wildlife and, as a volunteer at WildCare in San Rafael, I have a unique opportunity to see that wildlife up close.

Marin county native, UC Davis graduate.

I have traveled extensively to study with Master painters for the last 18 years. The Henry Hensche Colorist School and Camille Przewodek have most deeply influenced my understanding of light and color. Study with Jove Wang, Milt Kobayashi, Carolyn Anderson and Dan McCaw have provided guidance in the search for my "True North". I live with my husband, Jan, in the Novato home where we raised our two lovely daughters.

Georgia Annwell - Paintings

Georgia's show, Senior Artists of Marin, will be on exhibit at CMCM for the month. Her show includes 40 portraits of Marin artists in their 60's, 70's and 80's. Georgia will also be shooting her own short documentary about local senior artists during the reception. In 2005 Georgia began painting portraits while taking a class with Chester Arnold at the College of Marin. By the end of the class Georgia had completed several portraits of other senior artists, and she has not stopped painting portraits since then.
