Congratulations to CMCM member Dick Jordan, whose feature-length documentary "Cuba, Libre?" has been awarded an "Honorable Mention" from the SaMo Indie Fest film festival that will take place in Santa Monica, CA in November.
Exploring travel to Cuba by Americans from the early decades of the 20th century to the present day, "Cuba, Libre?" aired on MarinTV in January of this year and had a special screening at CMCM in February. The film was also shown at the Visual Radio Television Network Festival in Oakland in April, and the Sausalito and San Francisco public libraries as part of their respective film programs.
Kudos to Dick, who thanks Cynthia Abbott, Allen Bronstein, Gael Chandler, Marguerite Elliott and other CMCM members and guest instructors for providing critical feedback on the film during post-production.

The new research of Mexican journalist J. Jesus Esquivel crosses the border between Mexico and the United States, one of the largest and most complex in the world. Mexican writer and journalist , J. Jesus Esquivel has been a US correspondent for the magazine Proceso. He is an expert in American politics and has published books like The DEA in Mexico. Accredited to the White House, the US Congress and the United States Department of State. He has worked as a political analyst for several radio and television networks such as National Public Radio, CNN , Univision , Al Jazeera , Telesur of Venezuela and Colombia RCN.

The Community Media Center of Marin in collaboration with ForWords, The Task Force on the Americas, Canal Alliance, and Canal Welcome Center, will host screenings of select documentary films from the Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival at the Albert J. Boro Community Center on October 3, 4 and 6 at 7PM.
A documentary film that will share a powerful story about the American Dream and yearning – for freedom, for the country, and for identity across 4 generations on both sides of The Florida Straits. Follow Zuzy's quest to better understand her family, herself and the enigma of Cuba as she tries to convince her feisty 83-year-old Abuela to travel back to Cuba with her.

We are thrilled and honored to collaborate with Lido Cantarutti, Director of the Italian Film Festival taking place in the Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, California from September 24 through November 5.
As part of the collaboration with the Italian Film Festival, the Community Media Center of Marin created promotional videos for selected screenings that will be transmitted in Lido’s hometown network television Telefriuli as well as Marin TV.

Chelis Lopez interviews La Patrona, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Director Arturo González Villaseñor, Director of Photography Antonio Mecalco and Painter Claudio Talavera-Ballon, talking about the film premiere "All of Me" and the exhibition "Mujeres Luz" a painting series inspired by the documentary.
Mexico shares with the US the biggest border between the first and the third world US border. That makes the bridge of thousands of migrants crossing the country mounted on the back of the train “The Beast,” exposed to all the dangers. There, they find the “Patronas,” a group of Mexican women that prepare warm food and water for the migrants riding the train.

In partnership with the County of Marin, Canal Welcome Center, and the Community Media Center of Marin, high school students created a bilingual English-Spanish video about flood vulnerability and how youth can lead efforts to address climate change.

I've produced 18 "specials" for Marin TV including "'Southeast - Life in the Alaska Panhandle," "The White Bag," and "Cuba, Libre."
In a nutshell, describe your CMCM series (or special/s):
"Southeast" is a visual essay about Alaska's remote Panhandle region; it has been viewed on 27 public access stations across the U.S. serving over 1 million households. "The White Bag" is a spoof on the 1940s-1950s film noir "cops and robbers" and spy thrillers. It was a CMCM class project in which I play the "Ace of Spies." "Cuba, Libre" is a documentary that traces this history of travel to Cuba by Americans from the early decades of the 20th century until the Cuban revolution, and in the last 20-odd years since Americans resumed visits to that island nation.
