About the CMCM
The Community Media Center of Marin is a non-profit organization that was established to support, manage, produce, and distribute the widest possible range of noncommercial community-based media content and programs. This includes facilitating and managing the public, educational and governmental cable channels available on local Comcast and AT&T systems.
CMCM’s purpose is to encourage and support the use of public, educational, and government access cable channels and resources among a broad range of individuals, organizations, and institutions within Marin County and to facilitate the use of the PEG access channels as a public forum to promote a free exchange of ideas, information, and creative expression. CMCM will fulfill this role by establishing, operating, and maintaining media production facilities and equipment at a Community Media Center and by providing the necessary services and resources needed to produce programming and content.
The CMCM received initial capital and operating funds from the local video franchise agreement (PDF) between the Marin Telecommunications Agency (MTA) and Comcast Cable. The franchise agreement and the designation of a non-profit provider was years in the making and included the participation and tireless efforts of numerous individuals, agencies and community based groups including the Media Access Advisory Committee (MAAC) and Media Action Marin (MAM).
On June 15th, 2009 the CMCM/Marin TV went on the air with Comcast cable channels 26 and 27. Channel 26 is the Community Access Channel and Channel 27 is the Government channel. The CMCM channel can also be seen on the AT&T U-verse system on Channel 99. Since June, CMCM has been holding orientation sessions, field camera, editing and studio classes.
