CMCM in the Marin Human Race

Support locally produced commercial free media by supporting our team in the 2012 Marin Human Race!  The Marin Human Race is the largest collaborative fundraising event in Marin County. Participants support nonprofit agencies and schools across Marin County through donating and collecting donations.

Race day features a fun and energizing run/walk/roll around a 5K course, that winds its way through the historic and scenic Marin County Civic Center lagoon and fairgrounds, kids races and activities, a dog walk, the Community Village fair and a pancake breakfast.  Last year, over 4,000 people attended, and raised $285,000 for 110 nonprofits.  Over the past thirty years, the Marin Human Race has raised over $6 million dollars for 1,500 local nonprofits!

Marin Media Lecture Series Presents:
Ken and Melanie Light, Documentary Photographers

May 30th at 7 PM, Location TBA

We are excited to announce that documentary photographers Melanie and Ken Light will be speaking at the May installment of the Marin Media Lecture Series.  Melanie and Ken will be talking about their latest book project, Valley of Shadows and Dreams.

Valley of Shadows and Dreams began with a five year exploration of the Central Valley that coincided with Melanie's work on another book.  Ken and Melanie soon were fascinated by the development boom taking place throughout the Central Valley.  They saw the issues that accompanied this development as the same ones challenging other communities around the world: land and water use, growing economic disparity, and population growth.

Valley of Shadows and Dreams is the second collaboration between Melanie and Ken.  Their first co-authored work, Coal Hollow, is a collection of photographs and oral histories that chronicle the legacy of coalmining in West Virginia.  Melanie lectures and teaches internationally and is the recipient of grants from the Soros Documentary Fund and the Rosenberg Foundation.  Ken Light is the author of numerous photography books and teaches the University of California, Berkeley's School of Journalism and is a Laventhol visiting Professor at Columbia University.
