Angela Davis: Prisons
On March 3rd, Angela Davis addressed a nearly full house at Pickard Theater, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. In the 60's and 70's Ms Davis was known as an angry black woman associated with groups such as the black panthers. Today, she is a professor who has tempered her anger with wisdom and a deep commitment to advocating for the poor and oppressed. In her presentation, Professor Davis will connect our failing prison system to our failing system of social justice. Her views of creating a more egalitarian state will lead to the obsolescence of prisons, altogether. When you think about it, the existence of prisons is just a result of society's failure to create freedom and justice for all.
