Dickens 44
Throughout June and July, our Georgia Anwell Gallery Space will be displaying the unique work of Marin's Glue Artist, Dickens 44.
Please feel free to visit the exhibit any time during our normal business hours.
Exhibit Reception: Friday, June 8 from 6 PM - 8 PM.
Local legendary artist, Dickens 44 Bascom (also known as “The Glue Artist”) works prolifically from a warehouse studio in Novato, CA. Dickens 44 was born in Oakland and fell in love with Marin while attending San Rafael Military Academy as a teenager.
A key player in the Haight-Ashbury art scene, Bascom is still heavily influenced by the counterculture movement and isn’t shy to talk about his experience with Timothy Leary, Woodstock, and the Unknown Museum. In 1981, the artist left the country as a way to escape drug-abuse and a changing cultural landscape. He has since lived all over the globe in countries including Panama, Thailand, Brazil, and the Philippines.
Bascom plans to one day teach his form of “recycledelic fusion art” at children’s hospitals as a form of art therapy. He hopes the positive nature of his work will influence others to turn to creativity, “as an answer to boredom and confusion”.
