We’re writing at the end of the year to ask for your support of Marin TV and to update you on the year’s activities. Donate today and help us expand our media programs, especially for Marin’s youth. You will be helping our youth to find their own voice and develop media literacy and professional production skills.
This year more than 150 Marin K-12 students came to the Community Media Center of Marin for hands-on training and project based learning to strengthen their media skills. Students participated in all types of media production ranging from sports coverage, documentary and community event coverage. Students from more than 15 schools and programs worked with CMCM this past year and we hope to expand that number in the coming year.
Marin TV aired hundreds of government meetings in 2016 from municipalities and government agencies. More than 200 were covered by CMCM staff in eight council chambers we provided with video equipment. Helping to provide government transparency has been valued by our viewers and an important part of our mission.
This year our Community Channel featured 59 regular program series and more than 900 specials covering a wide range of subjects. The programming is provided by Marin residents to share back to the community via their own Marin TV channel.
At the center we had more than 300 enrollments in our production courses this year, including many in our popular ‘Ask the Expert’ lecture series. Those that took courses go on to use the center’s new cameras and studio for free to produce their programs for the channels.
Our facilities also continue to be upgraded, first with the completion of our studio renovation which now provides for full HD switching and recording for all video sources as well as 16 track audio recording. At this writing, we are completing our master control upgrade which is a major overhaul to how our channels and media will made accessible. In addition to full HD play out, the new system will feature live HD streaming of the channels on the web and a new Video on Demand archive system of all local programming that we air. In addition we will be archiving broadcast quality copies of all the content that comes through the media center - forever! This historical archive will help preserve the local history of Marin for our future generations. Look for these and many more changes to rollout in the coming new year!
