Not Enough Pay to Survive

Watch the latest film from Deutsche Welle's documentary series "In Focus".

Though he has a full-time position as a forklift operator, dock worker Dennis Ohm doesn’t earn enough to support his family. Anke Betram is a self-employed midwife, but has a second job at a health farm.

They are both among the growing number of Germans who work full-time but need a second job to make ends meet. Many of them now work as much as 60 to 70 hours a week. These cases will be familiar to many Americans suffering the same fate: not enough pay to survive.
