Attending a CMCM Orientation is the first step in becoming a member of CMCM.
Membership is necessary in order to register for classes and receive
the necessary certifications for using CMCM equipment and facilities.
Orientations are open to all Marin County residents and organizations.
Orientations will be held at our facilities at 819 A Street in San
Rafael.

Basic Field Lighting

This course teaches the basic principles of three point lighting and
how to achieve greater stylistic control when shooting in the field.
Attendees will learn how to safely operate several types of lights
including Lowel Omni 500s, Lowel Pro-lights and Photoflex Starlite
softboxes.  The course will cover how to use contrast ratios to create
different ‘moods’ and how to make better use of existing conditions
when few or no lights are available. This course is restricted to
members who have completed CMCM’s Basic Field Camera Production course
or test-out certification.

Basic Mac Skills

This class is a prerequisite for those who have registered for our Basic Final Cut Pro Editing course and are unfamiliar with the interface for Mac computers.  Topics include getting to know the Mac interface, file organization and management.

in the class is reserved.  Membership and orientation attendance is

Basic Final Cut Pro Editing: Night Class (1st of 3 sessions)

This three session, hands-on course teaches students to perform
basic editing functions while becoming familiar with the Final Cut Pro
user interface. Topics include basic setup, customizing preferences and
settings, capturing video and audio, various editing and trimming
techniques, basic audio editing and final output. We will cover some
useful concepts and terminology for digital video  editing. This class
is required to use our edit lab. Pre-requisites: Students should have
knowledge of Mac OS X and basic computer navigation. You must attend
all three sessions to become certified.

Basic Field Camera Production: Night Class (1st of 3 sessions)

Learn basic shooting, audio recording and production skills to create
 quality
programs.  This core class offers hands on training with the 
Sony Z5
(Mini DV format) camcorders, microphones and tripods. We'll
 also
discuss equipment safety and checkout procedures. As a resident
of 
Marin County, you can have access to our professional quality
video
production equipment to borrow at no extra charge after
completing 
certification. Successful completion of this class will
certify you to
 check out equipment for 48-72 hours at a time, up to
four times a month 
per video project. You must attend all three
sessions to become
 certified.
